The Herrfors app is currently experiencing a temporary issue. We are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Herrfors’ electricity production consists of several energy sources – wind power, hydropower, thermal power and nuclear power – each playing its own role in our electricity generation. We produce electricity both in our own and partly owned power plants, in a responsible and transparent way.
This is Herrfors
Herrfors is the parent company of the Herrfors Group. We are a bilingual energy company with over 115 years of history, producing, selling, and distributing electricity and district heating in Ostrobothnia and Northern Ostrobothnia. Our top priorities are reliable supply, competitive pricing, and environmentally friendly solutions.
Herrfors’ electricity production is based on several energy sources: our own and jointly owned power plants generate electricity from wind, hydro, thermal and nuclear power.
We continuously invest in renewable energy sources, aiming to reduce the share of fossil fuels to below five percent. In addition, we make use of local district heating production: district heating is produced in Ylivieska, Alavieska and Pietarsaari.
At the same time, investments in our network operations focus on modernizing the grid and improving supply reliability. This ensures the network can withstand both current and future production projects as well as weather fluctuations. Herrfors Nät-Verkko builds and maintains an extensive electricity grid in its area to ensure safe and reliable electricity distribution.

Ownership and Group Structure
The Herrfors Group is largely owned by local municipalities and regional energy companies. Major owners include Jakobstad’s Jakobstads Energi, Nykarleby Kraftverk in Uusikaarlepyy, and Vetelin Energia. The parent company of the group is Oy Herrfors Ab, which includes subsidiaries such as Katternö Kraft Ab, and the network company Herrfors Nät-Verkko Oy.
Herrfors continues to invest in new energy innovations. In autumn 2024, we commissioned new electric boilers in Ylivieska and a new energy storage facility in Oravainen, which increase production flexibility and reduce the need for expensive biofuel in district heat production. These investments also make it possible to utilise and adjust production more efficiently in the frequency markets.
Looking ahead, Herrfors plans to connect wind power projects to its network and actively monitors developments in the energy sector.
Executive Teams and Boards of Directors
The success of the Herrfors Group is built on skilled and committed people who guide the company towards a sustainable and responsible future. Our executive team is responsible for implementing strategic goals and developing day-to-day operations, while our board of directors ensures the company’s long-term direction and stability.
On this page you can find introductions to the executive and board members of the Herrfors Group companies – experts with diverse experience in the energy sector, business development, and societal engagement. Their shared mission is to ensure that Herrfors continues to be an innovative and reliable partner for its customers and stakeholders well into the future.
The Herrfors Group is a driving force for the local economy, a supporter of regional communities, and a promoter of the green transition. Below you can see how our operations make a difference in the economy, people, and environment.
Herrfors-konsernin vuosikertomus 2025 on julkaistu
Konsernijohtajan katsaus: Hyvin asemoituneina kasvavan kysynnän edessä Sähkönkulutus Suomessa on pysynyt suunnilleen samalla tasolla koko 2000-luvun ajan. Teollisuuden sähkönkäyttö on vähentynyt, pääasiassa siksi, että sanoma- ja aikakauslehtipaperin valmistukseen käytettävän mekaanisen massan energiaintensiivinen tuotanto on vähentynyt merkittävästi. Muiden teollisuudenalojen sähkönkulutus on pysynyt pääosin ennallaan. Palvelu-, kotitalous- ja muiden sektorien sähkönkäyttö on kasvanut vastaavasti kuin teollisuuden käyttö

May 15, 2024 Herrfors-konsernin tilinpäätös 2023 Poikkeuksellisen vuoden 2022 jälkeen, jolloin Herrfors-konserni teki ennätystuloksen, vuosi 2023 palasi normaalimmalle tasolle.
