This small energy company has a long history…
In 1907, things started happening at Herrfors Rapids near Pietarsaari, when a generator was installed at a local pulp mill – one of the first in Finland. Once the wheels started turning, it provided electricity not only to the factory but also to the local school, inn, and individual homes. A small power source began to transform the entire region into a more active and pleasant place.
Now, more than a hundred years later, much has changed, but Herrfors is still a small yet service-minded energy company whose goal is to provide electricity to the local area – and perhaps even half of Finland.

What does social responsibility mean to us?
Social responsibility means a willingness to contribute to solutions that benefit the whole and can serve many. Infrastructure is a prime example. Roads and ports, electricity and heating must be built in coordination and with the bigger picture in mind for society to function well.
Electricity has the special characteristic that it must be produced at the very moment it is used. Heat and energy should preferably be produced as close to the point of use as possible. Efficiency is then maximized, and environmental impacts minimized.
Long-term planning
An important part of social responsibility is long-term planning for the future. Electricity and heat distribution require repeated investments, continuous skill development, and stable financial management. Social responsibility primarily means striving for cooperation.
