Anniina Aho, marketing manager

Communication is crucial during major power outages.
While line technicians repair damages to the electricity grid, Anniina Aho and her team ensure that customers receive timely updates. As Marketing Manager, she leads communications for both current and potential customers.

Anniina was on maternity leave in 2018 when she noticed that Herrfors was hiring a visual copywriter. At the time, she didn’t know much about the energy sector—but the role instantly felt like a perfect fit.

“I’m creative, but I also want to work strategically. It’s amazing to have such a broad scope and to be involved in projects across all departments of the group. I really enjoy working with everyone in the organization. Six years have flown by. I’ve learned a lot, yet I know only a fraction. The learning never stops.”

Thriving at the Center of Action

The constantly evolving energy sector is both exciting and demanding. New directives and increasingly strict external regulations mean that one must stay up to date on many fronts. Still, Anniina finds it highly rewarding to be right where things are happening.

“I remember one evening in 2020 when storm Aila was approaching. I was at home when the wind picked up late at night—and within a minute, the power went out. Since I was part of the outage response team, I opened my laptop and got to work.”

The next morning, Anniina heard that line technicians working in the archipelago of Maksamaa were exhausted and hungry. They had been repairing lines in extremely challenging weather conditions, and many roads had been closed by the storm.

“I was the closest person, so I filled all the thermoses I had at home, bought food, and drove to meet the technicians. I still remember the smiles on their faces when I arrived. That was the moment I thought: at Herrfors, we do important work—and it’s best when we do it together.”

An Employer Who Sees the Person Behind the Job

Anniina relocated to Vaasa at short notice, which is now her primary base for work. Nowadays, this might not seem unusual—but at the time, remote work was still relatively uncommon. Anniina notes that Herrfors was already a forward-thinking employer even then.

“I can plan my own schedule and alternate between longer and shorter work weeks. That flexibility is incredibly valuable to me.”

Alongside her job, Anniina has studied at the Open University, and she feels her employer has been highly supportive in her skills development. Over the years, she’s been given more responsibility and new tasks—today, she works in a leadership role.

“You’d be hard-pressed to find a safer employer. Herrfors sees the person as a whole and always strives to find solutions that work for the employee. It’s no wonder Herrfors has such a strong reputation as an employer, especially among parents of young children.”
