Storm Hannes has caused widespread power outages in our electricity distribution area
5.1.2026 10:00 AM
Electricity has now been restored to all permanent residences in our network area. However, there is still significant damage in the electricity network, and repairing these faults remains our priority. Over the coming weeks, we will continue extensive clearing and repair work, and as the work progresses, electricity will be restored gradually also to holiday homes.
Please note that short power interruptions may occur during switching operations when repaired lines are put back into service.
We have also identified neutral faults (nollfel) at some customer locations after power has been restored. This is a very dangerous condition. Information on how to recognise a neutral fault is available. If you suspect a neutral fault, it is important to switch off the main switch. Once all customers have electricity, we will continue work to locate and fix these neutral faults.
Please note
- Clearing and repair work continues in all areas
- Only the electricity company’s personnel are allowed to handle trees that have fallen onto power lines
- Trees blocking roads are handled by the rescue services
- Please continue to report trees that have fallen onto power lines to: dc.jakobstad@herrfors.fi
- We read all incoming emails, but unfortunately we are not able to respond to every individual message
We thank our customers for your patience and understanding.
3.1.2026 4:00 PM
At present, 43 customers are without electricity. A large number of personnel have been working in the field today, with most efforts focused on line repair work in Mitterstvik. This morning, normal power supply was restored to Småbönders, allowing the temporary backup supply from Elenia to be disconnected.
Tomorrow, Sunday, we will operate under normal on-call duty. More extensive repair and clearance work will resume on Monday morning.
Yesterday, several locations were identified where the low-voltage network had been damaged so severely that entirely new poles and lines had to be constructed. Similar situations may also occur elsewhere in the network.
Please note that during connection work, short power outages may occur when repaired lines are brought back into operation.
Our objective remains that all permanent residences will have electricity restored today. Some holiday home areas will be left for next week. After this, clearance work will continue for approximately another couple of weeks.
We have also identified neutral faults at some customer locations after power has been restored. This is a very dangerous situation. Information on how to recognize a neutral fault is available. If a neutral fault is suspected, it is important to switch off the main breaker. Once electricity has been restored to all customers, we will continue addressing the neutral faults.

3.1.2026 10:00 AM
The number of customers currently without electricity is 37. Almost our entire workforce, together with several excavation contractors, is out in the field again today, with the main focus in Terjärv. Yesterday, we identified several locations where the low-voltage network was damaged to such an extent that completely new poles and lines had to be built. Similar situations may also occur in other parts of the network area.
Please note that during connection work, short power outages may occur when repaired lines are taken back into operation.
Our goal is for all permanent residences to have electricity restored today. Some holiday home areas will remain without power until next week. After that, clearing work will continue for approximately a couple of more weeks.
We have also observed neutral faults at some customer premises after power has been restored. This is a very dangerous condition. Information on how to recognize a neutral fault is available separately. If a neutral fault is suspected, it is important to switch off the main breaker. Once all customers have power, we will continue working to rectify the neutral faults.

Storm Hannes has caused significant damage to our electricity distribution network, and substantial disruptions remain. At present, approximately 1,200 customers are without power, most of them in Terjärv, where more than 600 consumption points are without electricity. In addition, we are aware that there are numerous consumption points that do not appear on the outage map and about which we have not yet received information.
We kindly ask that reports regarding trees fallen onto power lines continue to be sent to dc.jakobstad@herrfors.fi.
Situation by Area
Terjärv
- Several medium-voltage poles have been broken and power lines are lying on the ground
- Some faults require the construction of entirely new lines, which is time-consuming
- Full staffing is in place, along with contractors installing new poles
- External clearing crews are also working along the lines
- We are investigating reserve supply options – approximately 100 customers have been restored via reserve supply (through Korpelan Voima)
Oravais–Maxmo (approx. 360 customers without power)
- Repair work is ongoing
- Trees on the lines and partially broken poles
Pedersöre (approx. 120 customers)
- In Härö along Kolpintie Road, a transformer pole has been broken
- A new transformer station must be built in the area
- Work is underway today
Ylivieska–Alavieska (approx. 60 customers)
- Trees on the lines and several medium-voltage poles have been broken
- Work is being carried out with full staffing
- Fault repairs are ongoing today
Repair Schedule and Communication
At this time, we are unable to provide precise estimates for when power will be restored. In repair operations, permanently occupied residences are prioritized; holiday homes will be reconnected thereafter. Some customers will have their electricity restored today, while others will have to wait longer due to the extent of the damage.
We have received all fault reports. Although we have not been able to respond to each one individually, all reports have been recorded in our system. Our telephone service is currently congested, but there is no technical fault with the lines. We kindly ask customers to continue reporting faults if new damage is observed.
Yesterday, we conducted extensive drone inspections along the lines in the Fäboda–Pörkenäs and Bennäs areas, during which several faults were identified. Today, the wind is very strong (up to 18 m/s), which may limit the use of drones. Inspections will continue as weather conditions allow.
Fault detection and repair work are carried out simultaneously. Medium-voltage lines remain the top priority today, as restoring them enables electricity to be returned to the widest possible area.
Safety
Do not under any circumstances touch or approach power lines lying on the ground. They are life-threatening if energized.
We thank our customers for their patience and understanding in this exceptional situation. We will provide further updates as soon as there are changes in the situation.
28.12.2025 9pm
Storm Hannes has caused extensive damage to our electricity distribution network. We have received hundreds of reports of trees that have fallen onto power lines, lines lying on the ground, broken electricity poles, as well as damaged and non-operational transformers. At its peak, nearly 18,000 consumption points in our electricity network were without power.
All personnel within our network organization have been working since the beginning of the storm. In addition to our own staff, partner contractors are also on site. To ensure work safety, we must also make sure that our personnel get adequate rest. Without sufficient rest, efficiency decreases and the risk of accidents increases. We are working as quickly and efficiently as possible.
At present, our main focus is on restoring the high-voltage network. Once that is completed, work will begin on the low-voltage network. Unfortunately, at this stage we are unable to estimate how long the repair work in different areas will take. Restoring the entire distribution network will take several days.
We thank everyone for the reports we have received regarding fallen trees. These reports greatly assist our fault-finding efforts. We kindly ask that reports continue to be sent to dc.jakobstad@herrfors.fi or via private message on Facebook.
We will continue to inform our customers as soon as new information becomes available. We are grateful for your understanding and apologize for the situation caused by Storm Hannes. Unfortunately, the storm hit our distribution area the hardest. The situation is difficult for everyone. Repairs will take time, but together we will get through it.
28.12.2025 2am
Update regarding the storm and the damage it has caused to our electricity distribution network. We are currently facing a challenging situation, with countless trees having fallen onto power lines and caused power outages. Our entire organization is working to restore electricity distribution to all of our customers. We hope for your understanding regarding the inconvenience caused by the exceptional weather conditions.
27.12.2025 7pm
Due to strong winds, trees have fallen onto power lines, causing power outages in several parts of our electricity distribution area. As the wind remains very strong, outages are currently occurring faster than we are able to repair them. However, our staff are continuously working to fix the faults and restore electricity distribution. We will provide further updates as more information about the situation becomes available.
Thank you for your patience!
Follow current power outages on our outage map:
