Certified with guarantees of origin

Can I buy 100% renewable district heating from Herrfors?

Suppliers of district heating who sell renewable district heating must certify the origin of the heat. These certificates are called guarantees of origin for district heating. In Finland, the register of guarantees of origin is managed by the Energy Authority. The certification is based on the Act on Guarantees of Origin of Energy.

Guarantees of origin have a market price, and to cover the additional costs, we charge an extra fee from customers who want certainty that their district heating is 100% renewable.

What are the carbon dioxide emissions of district heating with my contract?

I have a renewable district heating contract

JIf you have a renewable district heating contract, the carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sources of your district heating are 0 g CO₂/MWh.

Your district heating is certified with guarantees of origin.

I don’t have a renewable district heating contract

If you do not have a renewable district heating contract, the carbon dioxide emissions are based on the district heating company’s emission calculations.

The emission calculations can be found through the Energy Industry’s KL emission calculator website.
