Oravaisten Savustamo

“We value local accessibility and reliability.”
CAJ NORRGÅRD, CEO, ORAVAIS SMOKEHOUSE
Today, Oravaisten Savustamo is a well-known brand in the meat industry. With three owners and a team of seven employees, its primary markets include Ostrobothnia, Åland, the Turku Archipelago, and the Helsinki region. From the very beginning, the company has steadily expanded its product selection and production capacity. It now offers around 50 competitive products and delivers approximately 15,000 kg of goods annually across Finland. 100% of customers receive their orders within 36 hours, a testament to the company’s efficient and thoroughly refined operations.
Founded in 1999, Oravais Smokehouse has been a Herrfors customer from the start. While the company has periodically explored other electricity providers, CEO Caj Norrgård says the choice has always remained clear:
“There are more factors than just price. We value local accessibility and reliability—we know what we’re getting. Herrfors always notifies us in advance of any planned power outages due to maintenance, and those are scheduled according to our needs. For us, it’s essential to ensure a continuous power supply throughout the smoking process to avoid waste. Every one of these benefits is more important than a small price difference.”

Oravais Smokehouse uses only 100% Finnish, premium-quality meat, and this commitment to local sourcing extends to their choice of electricity provider. The smokehouse is powered by locally produced hydropower, generated right in their hometown.
“One of our strongest selling points is traditionally and naturally handcrafted full-meat products. We aim to appeal to an urban customer base that values sustainability, quality, and locality.”
Since their products already meet every standard for quality, the final “cherry on top” is the use of green electricity from the local Hammarfallet hydropower plant.
“Hammarfallet produces just the right amount of electricity for Oravaisten Savustamo’s needs. When additional energy is required, we can tap into electricity from other hydropower plants. Over the years, we’ve invested in a broad portfolio of production methods, ranging from small to large plants,”
— Johanna Övergaard, Key Account Manager at Herrfors

Herrfors’ mission includes strengthening and supporting the local economy and community.
“We are proud to be part of Oravaisten Savustamo’s journey.”
Herrfors provides locally produced, renewable electricity to both businesses and private customers.
