Sell the surplus electricity from your solar panels to us

Do you generate more electricity with your solar panels than you consume? We buy your surplus electricity — easily and with transparent terms. This way, you get the most out of your production while contributing to a cleaner energy system.

What does selling surplus electricity mean?

If you generate more electricity than you use, the excess is automatically transferred to the electricity grid. We can buy this surplus from you at the Spot market price. All you need is a remotely readable meter installed by your grid company, permission to connect your microgeneration equipment to the grid, and a valid purchase agreement with us.

Who can sell surplus electricity?

  • You have a small production unit (e.g., solar panels, less than 100 kVA)
  • Your point of use is in Finland and connected to the grid
  • Your grid company measures both your consumption and production
  • You have a valid electricity sales agreement with us

Transparent Terms

How is the surplus priced?

We buy your surplus electricity at the Finnish Spot price (Nord Pool), minus our margin.
The credit will automatically appear on your next invoice, showing the amount of kWh credited and the price. You can also view your surplus production details in Oma Herrfors.

If you are VAT-liable, the credit will also include VAT.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about selling surplus electricity.

Can I sell electricity if my electricity contract is with another company?

No. We only purchase surplus if your electricity sales agreement is with us.

    Can I cancel the agreement?

Yes. The agreement is valid until further notice and can be terminated with a 14-day notice period.

What does net metering mean, and can I sell surplus in that case?

Net metering means your consumption and production are compared , only the portion of electricity that exceeds your consumption can be measured and sold to the grid.

You can only sell the portion that flows to the grid. If you consume more than you produce, no surplus is created and nothing can be sold.

Contact your grid company for exact measurement practices.

Can I sell surplus electricity if I have a battery or energy storage system?

Yes. Having a battery does not prevent surplus sales, but it does affect how much electricity goes to the grid. Surplus is only created when production exceeds both your consumption and the battery’s storage needs.

A battery can also help you time your electricity use better and maximize your self-consumption.
