Sebastian Storholm, IT Infrastructure Manager
“If you initially planned to stay on the company’s payroll for no more than six months and suddenly realize those months have turned into years, you can only conclude that you enjoy your job!”
That’s how Sebastian Storholm describes his career at Herrfors, which began in 2010. In his own words, his responsibilities as IT Infrastructure Manager include “everything from data centers to network wall sockets.” In other words, servers, cybersecurity, virtualization, and infrastructure development are all part of his daily vocabulary—and in his capable hands, they shape and adapt like modeling clay. The ever-changing tasks bring both interest and challenge to his work, and unforeseen problems keep his metaphorical mustache twitching. In this job, “familiar and routine” simply isn’t an option.
In addition to managing Herrfors’ infrastructure, Sebastian has also become well-acquainted with the map of Finland, as he is one of the many Herrfors employees who enjoy remote work. While based in Pietarsaari, he also works regularly from Helsinki, with about 90% of his duties performed remotely. For Sebastian, remote work boosts efficiency by reducing interruptions and also allows him to pursue his mechanical engineering studies. Many of his meetings also take place in Helsinki, which makes remote work a cost-effective alternative to frequent travel and hotel stays.
Reflecting on his years at Herrfors, Sebastian’s words clearly reflect the company’s strengths as an employer: a fairly agile, versatile, and continuously developing company. The number of employees has doubled, the number of servers increased twentyfold, and network sites expanded from three to fifty! Herrfors combines the best aspects of both a small and a large company.
