Sirkku Kamunen, line technician
After several years working in the healthcare sector, Sirkku Kamunen decided to pursue a career in the electrical field. Even when applying to her studies, she already knew she wanted to work with the power grid. She completed a training period at Herrfors Nät-Verkko, after which she was offered an apprenticeship in the spring of 2020. She later qualified as a line technician—and has been working with us ever since.
“The work is diverse—everyone does a bit of everything, and no two days are the same. One day we connect new customers, the next we lay cables, and the following day we might be replacing a transformer.”
Sirkku works as a Line Technician at Herrfors Nät-Verkko. For her, the best parts of the job are the variety and mobility. The work isn’t tied to one specific location—indoors or outdoors—though most of it happens outside. She encourages others not to be intimidated by the field, even if it’s still male-dominated. Gender doesn’t matter—as long as any preconceptions are left behind on both sides.

The job of a line technician suits someone who’s ready for physically demanding and sometimes messy work—in any weather. But it’s not just manual labor; it also requires brainwork, like any other profession.
