Fingrid will not charge the consumption imbalance service fee in October–November 2026 – the change will be reflected in prices for Herrfors electricity customers

Fingrid has announced that it will not charge the consumption imbalance service fee for October and November 2026. Until the end of September, the imbalance service fee is 0.05 cents/kWh, but no fee will be charged for October and November.

At Herrfors, changes in Fingrid’s imbalance service fee are always reflected in the prices billed for Spot+, Stabel and Stabel+ electricity contracts. When the fee increases, the change is reflected in a higher price – and correspondingly, when the fee decreases or is temporarily not charged, the benefit is passed on to the customer through a lower price. In October and November, the change will benefit our customers, as Fingrid will not charge the imbalance service fee at all.

What does this mean for Herrfors customers?

As no imbalance service fee will be charged for October and November, the effect will be reflected in the billing for electricity consumed in October and November 2026, for example as follows:

  • Stabel and Stabel+ contracts: the energy price will be lower than usual, as the absence of the imbalance service fee is reflected in the billed price.
  • Spot+ contracts: for Spot+ customers, the change will be reflected in a lower margin and therefore lower overall costs for October and November.
  • New contracts: for new contracts starting in October or November 2026, the absence of the imbalance service fee will be taken into account in the pricing.

Customers do not need to take any action due to the change, as it will automatically be reflected in the billing of existing contracts as well.

Why is the imbalance service fee not being charged?

Fingrid uses imbalance service fees to cover costs related to balancing the electricity system. The level of the fee is affected by factors such as reserve capacity prices and the costs of balancing the electricity system.

When the costs covered by the fee are lower than forecast, Fingrid may adjust the level of the imbalance service fee or temporarily refrain from charging it.

Changes in costs are transparently reflected in pricing

Herrfors continuously monitors the development of costs related to electricity procurement. Our principle is simple: changes in Fingrid’s imbalance service fee are reflected in the billed price regardless of whether the fee increases or decreases.

If Fingrid increases the imbalance service fee, the increase is reflected accordingly in the billed price. When the fee decreases or is not charged at all, this is also reflected in the customer’s price. This ensures that our pricing follows actual costs as transparently as possible.

For October and November 2026, this principle works in our customers’ favour: as Fingrid will not charge a consumption imbalance service fee, this cost will not be included in the price billed to our customers either.
